This set of fairly long but extremely thick tusks were recently recovered from a poacher in Kenya.

The photo below is of a tusker called Michael from Amboseli iin Kenya. This photo appeared on the Amboseli Elephant Trust's FB page. Now, they have been monitoring all the elephants in Amboseli for many any state that this bull is 26 years of age and for the first time in musth.
I am reproducing the photo here to show what an exceptional elephant Michael is. Twenty six years old and his tusks are already reaching more than halfway down to the ground ! He also appears quite tall at this young age and note how his tusks are still increasing in thickness right up to the lip.
Michael also appear gentle on his tusks having retained their sharp tips.
Twenty six years old - that means only 50% of his expected lifespan, imagine his tusks in another 26 years' time !
