Oh, wow! Fantastic :-0

What a great start with the Cape fox followed by the jackal family and more of the jackals later ^Q^

The amber eye is caught exceptionally well in some of the lion shots ^Q^

Lots of youngsters too. I love that tortoise shot, for example

And a beautiful martial... incredible morning O/\

Our Lion Day continues

Once that was decided, we went to our chalet, and after a good few days living in a tent in an unfenced campsite with only basic amenities, we took full benefit of our new found luxury
Showered and snoozed out, at 4.30 we were ready to roll once again

We are still not sure what this duck is and why it was at Samevloeiing anyway
But it was

Image

Our plan was to head up the Auob and back for our evening drive

We didn’t get very far.
Just as you get off the dune road before Houmoed, as you descend into the riverbed we saw
A whole lot of lions in the riverbed.

We weren’t going anywhere.

O/\ O/\

Image

There were two adult females and five teenagers

Image

We had an awesome time watching them, and especially the cubs interacting with one and another

Climbing in trees

More playing

They slowly started making their way up to the road.

Some of the cubs posed beautifully for us.

They all eventually crossed the road and followed the adults into the veld and over the dunes

Image

On the way back to Twee Rivieren, we noticed rain clouds coming in, and when the rain eventually arrived, we were glad to be in accommodation for the night

I braaied in the rain. (Again!)

Thanks nan, still more to come

Our stolen day

The next morning dawned cloudy after the previous evening’s showers, and for a change we decided to take a drive around the lower circle road.

Image

The road was quiet sighting wise, but we did spot this Jackal Buzzard posing on a rocky outcrop,

Image

As well as this Swallow tailed bee eater puffing up against the morning chill

Image

Things brightened up a bit with this far off male lion who after posing in the middle of the riverbed near Monroe, decided to move off a bit further away and plop down on the far side of the riverbed.
