I feel very sorry for these poor tourists. The driver probably ended up in a state hospital with poor doctors and facilities

The car they traveled in is badly damaged. Hopefully for them they took out insurance on it.

Their holiday messed up because one taxi driver were reckless

I'm sure they will never return again

Next trip to the bush??

Taxi hits and kills giraffe, which then falls onto another tourist vehicle
A minibus taxi hit a giraffe in the Kruger National Park (KNP) today.

PHALABORWA – The animal then fell onto a rental vehicle, injuring two foreign tourists.

According to Ike Phaahla, the spokesman for the KNP, the incident occurred before midday between Mopani and Shingwedzi rest camps.

The taxi driver could not avoid the giraffe which was crossing the road and struck the animal, killing it on impact.

There were 13 passengers in the taxi.

The animal fell onto the rented bakkie, crushing the roof of the vehicle and critically injuring the elderly Swedish driver.

Both the Swedish nationals were flown by helicopter to Mediclinic Nelspruit.

“The driver’s wife sustained minor injuries and is currently in hospital for observation,” Phaahla said.

The driver and two passengers in the minibus taxi sustained minor injuries.

The front of the taxi bore the brunt of the collision, with heavy damage shown on the photos found on the SANParks Twitter page.

Phaahla stated that the matter will be investigated by the South African Police Services in order to determine if negligence on the part of either of the drivers contributed to the accident.

A taxi carrying visitors to Letaba was involved in an accident south of Mopani. From the initial observation, it looks like the taxi hit the giraffe and the giraffe fell on top of the safari vehicle which was following the taxi," Phaahla told News24.

If the bakkie was following the taxi it was going at the same high speed , surely? I don't think so.

In fact it looks as though the bakkie is facing in the opposite direction.

The nedia are all so anxious to get the news out first that they never check their facts O/

First the driver was Swiss now he is Swedish. The giraffe could not possibly fall on top of the other car if it was behind. Even the place where it happened is optional 0*\

There is going to be a war between insurances. Logic would say that the insurance of the taxi should pay, but they are going to say that it was the giraffe that hit the car so the giraffe's insurance must pay. I am feeling soooooo sorry for the poor tourists, they cannot even immagine what they are up to if they don't have any knowledge about the South African ways of doing things  :-( :-(

That's why I always take out a full coverage insurance even if it is expensive.

I must look up about the damage made by animals

If you have insurance, your insurance pays for you then claims from other insurance. I don't think the taxi would have insurance, but that is the insurance companies problem, not the driver.

Also believe it was above Mopani with the guys coming in at Punda to go to day visitor area at Mopani.

Only when you buy a new vehicle then you have to give proof of insurance
