Re: Rhino Poaching
We do not know either what the result of liberation of big quantities or horns will be.

Re: Emphatic “no” to controversial rhino proposal
If they cannot/do not even control the hunting permits..........
There is a dire need of controls at all levels in most activities........and control of the contollers

Re: Rhino Poaching
The big problem lies in education.
The people are not educated over there nor over here.
But the biggest problem of all lies in the fact that the Oriental countries do not care a hoot.
They have been communistic for so long now and apart from being that they have also adapted a small, but very significant, taste for the almighty dollar.
Money does really talk.
They do not care a hoot about how they have to get it.
Lawfully or un- lawfully. They will find a way.
They are locusts.
Look everywhere around you.
There is nowhere you can look without seeing something that has been manufactured in an oriental country.
Slowly but surely they are hollowing us out and taking us over.
In case of the Rhino's they are much the same.
It will not stop there.
If that is finished/ depleted they will start on something new as already has happened with the Lion bones.
We cannot get to the Kingpins.
So we will have to start at the bottom.
A shoot to kill policy is the last thing I would want to see, but that seems to be the only way to stop this.
Make people understand that if you are caught with a gun in a park or reserve you will be buried 6 feet deep.
That will deter the small "fries" from taking that risk and the poaching will go down.
It will not stop it completely, but it will go down.
Furthermore dump that bunch of compressed hair, not for the private owners, and make sure that everybody knows that SA will not take any xxxx with our wildlife.
The private owners can sell their horns at 10% of the marketvalue and nothing more. That way people like mr. John cannot enrich themselves any further.
You carry a gun and you will get shot!

Tend to agree with you on this one, but it will not deter me from trying to stop this.Richprins wrote:I'm starting to wonder what we have to lose in this case? Nothing else is working!

Re: Rhino Poaching
It's a very complex situation. I too wonder sometimes if legalizing the trade in rhino horn might be the right way to go, but as Lis says, then the end user will never be educated!!

Re: Rhino Poaching
Ain't that the truth.
That is why I advocate for a much more harsher way of controlling this, but we need a strong willed government to enforce or even implement that.
Alas. That is Utopia.

I think, repealing the CITES trade ban on rhino horn would be a time-consuming process of several years and necessitate a serious lobbying effort to win the necessary country votes.

And then I also think why should we give in to this demand in order to satisfy a totally ridiculous belief!!!
