Getting to & from Hluhluwe/iMfolozi Game Reserve
Re: Getting to & from Hluhluwe/Imfolozi
Hi all,
I am new here and have a question.
We will be traveling from Kruger to Hluhluwe in July....I have been told to travel through Swaziland instead of traveling around it, like I read on this site.
We depart from Lower Sabie and will be staying in Hilltop....how long will this trip take...will we be able to arrive before dark?
What would be the best route to follow
Thanks for your tip and advise

Hey vinkie
Welcome
I have tried other routes and it’s much easier through Swaziland. I have done this exact same trip 8 times in the last 18 months
Lower Sabie to Croc Bridge is around an hour, sightings dependant and then another 45 minutes to the Mananga border entry (Swaziland border).
I will PM you the best route through Swaziland if required, but it’s fairly easy, besides 35km of dodgy road.
The trip through Swaziland will take around 2 hours and you exit at Golela border and from there it’s an easy drive to Memorial Gate Hluhluwe, around 110km and from there about 15km to Hilltop camp
About a 5 hour trip in total, but add 2 plus hours if you try another and go around Swaziland
Remember no meat permitted through Swaziland so shop in Hluhluwe if required
Toko may also be able to help with more info

Vinkie
Remember also, for a rental car you have to ask for a cross border permit and the rental car company may charge between 500 and 800 Rand. Nevertheless it's more comfortable through Swaziland, I think
And for me three month until my next visit

Thanks Bushcraft , could you pm me the route ....would like to ask it by pm but I am not permitted to pm yet
Toko: I have asked for the cross border permit when making the reservation at Sunny Cars....we will receive the permit when we fetch the car at Johannesburg International(costs about 80 Euros I was told), but thanks for the tip
When you go we will be back again , wish I could stay in South Africa forever

Does anyone know if the Ermelo - Piet Retief - Pongola route is still in a good condition?
