Funny that giraffes often have such strange growths

The SPA kudu really needs some treatment with all those tics

Flat lions are not much fun

Ground hornbills are strange birds, but also fascinating

We have had great fun sightings with ground hornbills

I like the ellie, very curious tusks...

It is nice to have work!

Yes we have since then had similar experiences there would not recommend the BnD restaurant .

On the way back to camp some colour on the powerline caugh our eye .


After lunch we went out early for an afternoon drive . Going along the river road to Gardenia Hide .

Along the road to the hide we found some of my favourite Bee Eaters




At the hide we found this big Giraffe eating


While watching a herd of Ellies arrived and we got to watch a big bull digging his tusks deep into the mud which was very interesting to watch .






After watching for quite a while we decided to move on when more of the Herd arrives from the other direction so they had the hide surrounded luckily we never managed to get in to the hide with all the activity outside else we might have been stuck there a while .

Nice birdies and action at the hide, Dwarf and I were indeed surrounded by ellies in the hide once, and indeed one is trapped for a while, he even had a snooze!

We drove up to the S118 again as it is one of our favourite roads

After a short trip we came across a small traffic jam on a narrow part of the road .A car left as we approached and told us there was sleeping Lions and sure enough there were


As we had driven the road earlier we probably drove past them




After sitting with them for a while it appeared that they were doing what Lions do best very well (sleeping) so we drove off to start heading back to camp . As we got to the Tar road turnoff towards Malelane camp we hit a scrum heading towards us . Looking in the direction they were looking we found another Lion on the hunt .


We got some pics as we were now by chance in the front of the pack although facing the wrong way .As the pack moved past us we had to wait to turn around to follow .


With some patience we managed to get some shots before she moved off to the bush .




Very happy with our final sighting of the day we headed off to camp .
