Identification
A 51–58 cm long dabbling duck. Grey body. Darker head. Bright yellow bill. Wings: white below with white-bordered green speculum. Feathers are generally dark brownish grey becoming paler at the edges.
Sexes similar. Juveniles slightly duller than adults

Identification
Dark brown upperparts, with scaled effect due to pale buff feathers’ edges. Seen in flight, secondaries are pale buff-orange, pale speculum or a wing patch. Underparts are brown, paler than upperparts, with broad white fringes. Underwings are dark grey-brown, with paler trailing edge. Head has dark brown crown, from forehead to nape, contrasting with pale buff cheeks. Bill is pinkish-red, with a black line in the middle of the upper mandible, and dark brown nail. Eyes are dark brown. Legs and webbed feet are blackish.
Female is slightly smaller than male, and with duller bill.
Juvenile resembles adults, with duller bill, and streaked chest instead mottled.

Identification
Largely dark slaty gray with black head and neck and white facial shield; two red knobs at the top of the facial shield, reduced in non-breeding season. Eyes red, legs and feet greenish. Sexes alike, but males are larger.
The juvenile is paler than the adult, has a white breast, and lacks the facial shield; the adult's black plumage develops when about 3-4 months old, but the white shield is only fully developed at about one year old.

Identification
30 cm; sexes alike. Distinctive smallish grey and white raptor with black shoulder patch and bright red eyes. Frequerltly hovers in search of prey.
Juvenile: Eyes yellow, turning orange, then red. Mottled brownish above and with rusty neck and breast.

17 cm; sexes alike. Bold broad black chest band and sides to face, with white eyebrow and throat very distinctive.
Juvenile: Brown above, spotted buff; off-white below with brown mottling on breast.
