Berg n Dal a leopard hot spot. Pity that it ended with a dead leopard, but I would have shot it too.

So sad such a beautiful animal had to be shot, but it would have been more tragic if a human life was lost.

I read Kobie Kruger's book "All Things Wild and Wonderful" in which she tells of the unlikely relationship between their family dog and a lion cub she had raised. She even tried to teach Leo (the lion) to hunt. Wolfie (their dog) was the one to teach him herding techniques.
I guess life is quite different for families living in Kruger.
We had often heard a dog bark during our earlier visits to Crocodile Bridge ... wonder if it was Wolfie and if Leo was sitting next to him?

An old ranger friend of ours was involved in several leopard re-locations. Most of these leopards went back to where they were caught. Several of them went unbelievable distances (up to 80km)...

Sad as it is, I think they did the right thing.

I remember when they caught the original BNDal Leopard in the Mid 1980's when it was a brand new camp..It used to sleep in a tree on the perimeter walk and you were told at the reception if you saw the tail hanging down you were to turn around and retrace your steps ..They released it in Stolznek Section nearby and 3 times it returned in a few days ..Peter who was your Ranger friend?? Mike English of Stolznek section ..Great friend of ours too..He was in charge of catching this original BN Dal leopard
