Re: Recipes
As a bachelor...sometimes...used to living off scraps:
A good way to use old buns/bread and leftover bacon/sausages etc. from a brunch is to make "braaibroodtjies" that evening...
Stale buns are fine...even the long ones.
Place just a little bit of bacon inside, with tomato, onion, cheese (cheddar) and mayonnaise.
Turn over coals for 5 minutes each side, and voila!
Intended as a side-dish to the meat?
Also brilliant cold the next morning!

Re: Recipes
With a bit of imagination you could do something better than that....and then it is only old bread. If you do the same thing with fresh bread it will be much better, I am sure -O ( if the rest is old too, better throw it away )

How could you possibly add to that perfection?

Re: Recipes
My Saffie friends make braaibroodtjies everytime I visit. Best ones I've tasted were the ones we had at Bateleur camp - deeeelicious, especially with a frostie.

Re: Recipes
Warning:
Be careful with chicken and pork...
If you do take it, try and use it on the first night...one fridge or cooler-box mishap and you may end up suffering the consequences...
Example:
A long time ago we took in pork chops for a day visit, to braai at the Pretoriuskop pool. It was very hot indeed, and the meat was in the cooldrink cooler, so defrosted a bit early, and we braai'd a bit late...
The meat had quite a whiff as we took it out, and tasted funny...
I spent the night back in Nelspruit "shouting groceries", as they say! -O
Steaks are trustworthy!
Example:
A long time ago we stayed at Sabie Park, entering the Park each day...
Upon leaving for home the Sunday morning, we discovered a pack of Rump Steak that had been left in the kitchen cupboard, by mistake, instead of the fridge...
The meat had a green tinge, so when we returned to Nellies, and had a few green Amstels, we thought what the hey! A green braai!
The best steak I've ever had, and without repercussions!
Same goes for wors and sheep!
NO SEAFOOD! It just ain't right in the bush!

It's a miracle that you are still alive to tell the story
