ExFmem I have tried it with the 20D and it jammed the camera up in such away that I ended the sequence by putting the camera off. The in Noise function on the camera takes up a lot of processing time . It is quicker and faster to do it out of camera through different techniques than trying to do it in camera. I have found this out through experience and also what I have read . maybe some one else has found it to be different
Peter great shots

Re: Astrophotography
I usually take strings of shots with the intention of also doing star trials and a timelapse video, and then one can't have big gaps in the middle due to long-exposure NR.ExFmem wrote:Exquisite!
Do any of you (currently or in the past) use the custom function noise reduction setting in the camera? Is it worth the extra time it takes for the camera to take the second exposure in order to subtract/reduce noise, or is it just as easy to do it during post processing? Thanks.
Also, I have been lucky that my cameras don't generate a lot of long-exposure noise.
Re: Astrophotography
Another form is this , there are two ways to do it. One in camera where you leave your shutter open for +_ 60 minutes to get the same effect. This was only done for 16 minutes 20 sec. There are 29 photo's combined with a 5 sec delay between photo's. You can see there is not a constant flow on the stars, Maybe one long shot would be better if there was no light
Taken at 28mm for 30sec at f4 ,ISO 500. Maybe if I dropped the ISO more to about 50 and increased the shutter to about 90 sec it might have helped
Processed in Photoshop in layers, combining the lot into one single photo using this method http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2012/ ... -photoshop HDR and the normal then added for effect

Re: Astrophotography
PR, indeed it can be done with longer exposures.
However, I find that each time I try a really long exposure, some inconsiderate person pollutes with light and the shot is ruined...
