02 – Amazing Mopani (part I )
Hi all,
After our first night in Skukuza we moved north for 8 nights Mopani.
Mopani ? yes….. my favorite camp and not just for elephants and buffalo
Mopani area was dry like most of kruger. Mooiplaas and Tihongonyeni … very very dry and very few animals. Tsessebe and several other species moved to other places around Mopani. Our challenge… let’s find them !
Early morning and decision > Shongololo Loop or because I never can get this name in my system I mainly say Shololololo loop
First thing to check is the rocks behind the hide but no leopard this time. A bit further we were curious if we could find anything at Frazersrus.
And then…. at the lefthandside
-
-
Sable, the most beautiful antelope (to our opinion) and a bit hidden behind and between the bush many hundreds of buffalo. My first impression… many rocks but rocks normally do not move and make noise… the buffalo were just waking up I guess.
A better look and we counted 8 Sable, an impressing male leading the group. A real “Swartwitpens”
-
-
After a few minutes staring at them, without words since we were so surprized to see them, they suddenly started to run to the right. Ohhhh no…. don’t go away !!
-
-
Pffffffffffff they were running to the waterhole and not leaving the area. Smileeeeee
-
-
They first had to pass the buffalo(wall) , what a sight , what a background
-
-
Amazing… watching Sable and so many buffalo at the back and the buffalo did not move forward.
-
-
After walking slowly to the waterhole they started to drink
-
-
Interesting to see how they pay attention to all directions while some were drinking
-
-
Quick drinking… some on their knees
-
-
Always great if they turn the heads towards you … thanks !
-
-
After drinking they walked away. Hesitating a bit because of the buffalo but they moved away so end of story or ????? Read Part II for the answer (smileeee)
-
-
End of Part I …. You’re welcome to read part II
