We stayed at LS for one night.
During the evening drive we went past Sunset dam, and there was a hippo lying on the side of the water. It was moving a bit, but did not seem in a good way.
Next morning, we went past to see what had happened and just managed to see some lions heading into the bush. Either the hippo had died on its own. Or the Lions had killed it.
We then went up to Satara for 2 nights, and then back down to Skukuza. For the evening drive at Skukuza I drove to LS to see what had happened to the Hippo. It had been reduced to bones in 3 days.

Sad, but nature for you and incredible astonishing how quickly carcasses are demolished!

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

Re: The not a trip report - trip report
I was surprised at how little was left of the hippo
The lions left early in the morning, and didn't bother to hang around and defend the kill.
A Hooded Vulture was lurking in a nearby tree, and my guess is more arrived shortly thereafter. A group of vultures can strip a carcass in a matter of hours.
