Brown Hooded live in a variety of habitats and have varied coloration different from the everytime seen (Like a Pied Kingfisher) always the same coloration >> but everyone on FB says its a Grey Hooded..So its the FIRST time I have ever seen this Coloration Adult or Juv and Kgalagadi all in one ..Guess next year we will have a Hybrid Ostrich/Kori Bustardnan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 11:21 pmthis one is a Grey-headed Kingfisher as per "Id ing" in FB by several people who come often in the Kgalagadi and even one had seen one some (or long) time ago... did you clik on picture ?Peter Betts wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 7:30 amIts a Brown Hooded Kingfisher ..Common in Kgalagadi A Woodland Kingfisher has a Black Bottom Bill Not Red and A Woodlands is Blue all over the back

Re: Bird Identification
This bird was seen in the Kgalagadi during our visit. I did not see it and this is not my photo but it was Id'ed by the Birders in the know as Grey-headed/hooded Kingfisher.
It is very similar to Nan's photo.

Peter , Brown-hooded is not common in Kgalagadi . It does not occur there. The Striped Kingfisher is the common one in the KTP. :)Peter Betts wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 7:30 amIts a Brown Hooded Kingfisher ..Common in Kgalagadi A Woodland Kingfisher has a Black Bottom Bill Not Red and A Woodlands is Blue all over the back

First one is a Violet-eared Waxbill
Second one toooo far...Probably Tawny Eagle.
