Did you get any animals in the big space in front of the chalet?

Are they single chalets or do they have a wall in common?

Yes we did get a few animals in front of the chalet
Most of the chalets are separate so no adjoining walls. There are only 2 of the 6-sleeper chalets (like ours), and they are built as a mirror image so they do have an adjoining wall and the noise from next door does filter through more than we would have liked. I'm sure this isn't a problem with the others though.

The balconies face due north which is towards MZNP, but there's a really nice open floodplain in front of the chalets so the view is fantastic. Much better than the opposite direction

Yes there is some water out front in places, and there's a waterhole built in the open area in front of the chalets which sometimes attracts some visitors. No luck with the drought yet - it's green around, but dam levels are still desperately low

Thanks Pumbaa, yep those ostrich chicks became a common sight on the drive to camp

For our afternoon drive we plotted to scout out the Gorah loop up to Carols Rest to see whether Aardlam and her sub-adults might be around anywhere. But the weather forecast was correct for a change and we endured a very damp drive with very little to see. On the way up to Carols Rest we found a couple of elephant bulls drinking from the drainage lines before strolling past our car

Coming back down the loop we saw a number of jackal out hunting for bugs that the rain would have brought out. I'm not sure if it's just our luck, but lately we really haven't seen many jackal in Addo, so it was good to see a few out and about





The rain held on well into the evening so we enjoyed an early night. The forecast wasn't good for the next day either, but thankfully it was clear by morning

We probably set off a bit too early as it was really dark for the first 20 minutes of driving. However we were fortunate to catch a few hammerkops by the road - I've only ever seen them in wet weather in Addo



Once across to the main game area we checked out the elephant carcass which had a few jackal around but nothing else. It was then a bit of a repeat of the previous afternoon's drive up to Carols Rest to see if any cats would pop out, but they hadn't got the memo that we were visiting

Along the Gorah loop we had some kudu nice and close to the road, as well as an ostrich family who only seemed to have a single chick left









The day was heating up nicely, causing mist to rise from the overnight rain

A pity with the rain

Wasn't there a moment that the jackals in Addo were disappearing? I don't remember well but seem to remember something about poisoning
