There are blond and dark males at Tembe \O

Tembe’s lions all came from 4 individuals only and maintaining the genetic diversity is required by management. Small reserves need to supplement these populations for the overall health of the system. At around the 5th generation in lions, lions become susceptible to disease and the genetic pool should be refreshed by bringing in in new males or females. The plan is to bring new genetic bloodlines into Tembe in 2015/2016.

Wow Toko, you sure had a lot of excellent sightings on your visit to Tembe. O/\

I really must make an effort to keep up with TT's on here as I am missing out on some great reads and photos. :o0ps:

Was the pride male Mfusa? That mohican haircut looks familiar to me, and also the lioness looks familiar as well? If so, they have done well since we saw them in 2010. They were also at that same bend in the road that you saw them at. They must like that area. \O

Agree with some of the ellie matriarchs down the swamps being aggressive. We were chased for a long way by one of them, but the bulls were very relaxed around us. Even when one caught me out in the open on foot. He just ambled by without a care in the World. O/\

Great to catch up here. Looking forward to see more. 0()

Glad you like it, Dewi.

That area around the lion bridge is a big deal for the lion prides, ongoing battles and take-overs there. Mufasa's pride has lost the bridge years ago.
