Sadly, so true. I had already commented on the rising crime here in the USA, but the asinine "Defund the Police" movement made it SO much worse. What idiots
As with most countries, it depends on what area one plans to visit, but there do seem to be fewer and fewer options.

The death toll from two shootings that took place around midnight last night in South Africa has risen to 19. In Soweto, near Johannesburg, 15 young people, including two women, were killed by several assailants who fired large-calibre weapons into the "fun-loving" crowd in a bar. The victims were between the ages of 19 and 35.
In Pietermaritzburg (Eastern Zulu region), four people were killed by men who opened fire indiscriminately. Investigators are also focusing on similar modus operandi, although shootings are common in South Africa, one of the most violent countries in the world, where gangs and alcoholism are rampant......

I have no words anymore for the things that are happening all over the world.
God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

The tourist was one of four travellers making their way to one of the country’s top tourism attractions when he was shot.

“We call on law enforcement agencies to find the perpetrators of this violent crime as soon as possible,” SA Tourism and the Tourism Business Council of SA said in a joint statement.
“Violence against tourists is equivalent to economic crimes such as stealing copper cables and gold, and something must be done urgently,” CEO of the Tourism Business Council Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa said.
No new developments in kidnapping of Ukrainian woman in Cape Town
Police in the Western Cape are appealing for anyone with information regarding the brazen kidnapping of a Ukrainian woman this week to contact them.
“Our teams will meet with our colleagues in the security cluster to discuss ways in which plans to ensure tourist safety are fast-tracked ahead of our very busy summer holiday season. It is important that we make sure visitors to our country feel safe to enjoy our wide variety of tourism experiences and establishments.”
SA Tourism acting CEO Themba Khumalo said the country receives a large number of tourists from Germany and this is one of the ways in which the tourism sector has been able to recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As a sector, we are aware that crime tops the list of factors that tourists have raised as a concern when choosing SA as a destination. It was with this in mind that at a recent gathering of tourism industry leaders the sector called for the security cluster to help us in bolstering tourism safety and acting fast against acts of criminality that affect the sector’s potential. The protection of all tourists is immensely important to us.”

And we are doing a great job stopping cable theft and illegal mining
There has to be action which leads to fast arrests, prosecution and imprisonment. We are not good at that either.
Most serious crime involves firearms. Most of these are illegal. I want to see the law changed to allow a separate prosecution for firearm offenses. The other charges can come later. Add mandatory 5yrs imprisonment, no bail for 1st 14 days (longer if accused delays proceedings), a speedy trial in a dedicated court via video link, some limited safeguards to cover situations where you are in possession of a firearm illegally purely by accident and a firearm amnesty.
Then we want to see arrests followed by conviction within 14 days. Criminals will not be out on bail to continue with crime, intimidate witnesses or employ delaying tactics.
