You are spot on, well done!


Description: Size: TL female and male 4-6 mm. Carapace is dark, brownish black, clothed in whitish grey hair, with brown bristles near eyes. Abdomen is ovoid, narrower posteriorly; dark brown, with traces of lighter median streak; dorsum with large scutum; greyish and brown hair cover abdomen; sides of abdomen are pale, venter is greyish. Legs are light brown. Female is larger than male.

Description: Size:TL female 8-9 mm, male 4-5 mm. Female's carapace is pearshaped, high, dark brown; covered with short dense white hair; eye field is short, eyes are surrounded by black rings. Abdomen is swollen, brownish fawn, clothed in short brown and orange hairs, among them scarce longer brown bristles; irregular lighter median streak, three pairs of whitish small rounded spots cling to it, dark diagonal patches on sides.
Legs are orange with brown rings, anterior pairs short. Male is smaller and darker.


The spiny legs are a give away, I think

ExFmem, what lense do you use for these shots?

Absolutely. No idea as to which of the many species found in S.Africa it is though. Everytime I Google anything containing "Phtheria", it comes back with tons of info. on "Diptheria"

Mine looks "exactly " like one from Germany I found, so am positive you are correct.
