Thanks everyone, I'll get to your comments in a while, this is just a newsflash hot off the press for Richprins that lunch that day was pie, salad and a cold herb sauce, which I believe was very tasty. (Thanks Tine

).
More bears on their way as well.

Jill, glad you liked the pics, she came a bit closer to us than this though............
Mel, The bears rarely drink water. They have evolved to eat a diet that is rich in fat (seal blubber) and the chemical reaction that breaks down the fat is also their main source of water.
Nan, more to come, that was only the first wave of the Rio carnival.
Flutts, thanks, hope you enjoy the next batch as much.
Cheers PRWIN.
Lis, 20 metres or so, maybe even closer in a bit.
Leachy, they have evolved to be camouflaged and to help regulate body heat.

She approached the ship and sniffed about on the ice.
She sniffed the air, making sure that we were no threat.
This was more like it. I never dreamed I'd get this close to a Polar Bear in the wild. I had hoped for closer views than the ones we had had earlier in the trip, but this was mind blowing. What an experience to be up close with such a fantastic predator.
She posed nicely on the floe.
So I got my patent tongue filter out, but it was not working fully.
Then she came even closer.
Oh my word this was fabulous to watch. I'm certain that I was gibbering on like crazy, but cannot remember what I was going on about.
I was now in dreamland. Superlatives cannot explain what we were experiencing.
Eventually she lost interest in us and wandered off.
She went back into the water and gave us a farewell swim by.
What a sighting.
What an experience.
A once in a lifetime encounter?
Nope, not really. Little did we know that the next one was to be even more impressive.

Thanks Bratman.

The fact that you wanted to nominate them is enough for me, appreciate the thought.

I'm just happy knowing that you are enjoying the pics.
