The below photo is of a young elephant at Tembe is living proof that the long tusk gene is still present in their elephant population. Look how long his tusks are already when compared to the mature bull next to him.

Kenya recently had a bad drought that was broken when their short rainy season started. During this drought an cow elephant tusker called Mudanda succumbed in Tsavo.
