6th Biyamiti to Lower Sabie continued
We arrived at Skukuza just before 9am, so it was a little early to park off at the golf club until around 1pm, so we decided to do a little of the S1 which we hadn’t ventured down for a while and a few km down the road a cruising leopard appeared, so the adrenalin was up again.
The Cow then started shouting about a bird which had landed next us. I didn’t know what was potting, but thought I better show interest and then I did get interested when I realised that it wasn’t one of the normal models we see in the south. I believe this is a Klaas’s Cuckoo.
The leopard was still parking off below us, but the crowd was growing and it didn’t look like he was going to move in a hurry and it was still too early for brunch, so we decided to head down the S65 which we hadn’t done yet and just past halfway Albert, then the other rats all started shouting “Leopard! It’s in the tree!” but as I stopped he bailed out the tree.
I was now huffing and puffing because if we had been 10 seconds earlier we would have got a pic at least. His kill was still in the tree, so I turned and positioned ourselves next to another car and switched off.
Minutes later there was a movement in the bush to the left of the tree which got us all hyped up again as a leopard’s head was poking through the bush. It was again a mission to get pics which resulted in the Cow and I having a mini scrap as it was on her side, but fortunately the leopard then decided to cruise in and sat at the base of the tree. He parked off for a while, had a scratch like a dog and then moved off into the bush.
We then decided to continue down to the H1-1/S65 intersection before turning to head back and at the intersection we spotted 2 cars up the road which had stopped so decided to check it out and to our surprise it was another leopard deep in the bush and it had taken out an impala.
I now got seriously frustrated with my camera as I couldn’t get the damn thing to focus through the twigs and it kept zooming in and out of its own accord while it searched for focus which only made me wilder, so I chucked the camera at the Cow and stole Hawkeyes point and shoot camera which is more forgiving in the hands of the clueless.
