Some information about the 3 Wild dogs in in Northern Sabi Sabi. According to Grant Beverley they are from the Lower Sabi Sabi pack but they dispersed before the distemper hit that pack hence why they survived.

We just got back from Kruger and were very lucky with Wild Dogs this trip. We encountered 20 total - a pack of 11, and then one with 9 members. Both sightings were for a considerable amount of time, and even better, there were only about 3-4 cars at the first, and we were the only ones at the second.
I do have a question, if someone knows - the second sighting began with an adult male lying next to the roadside. We could barely make out movement further back under a lot of fallen tree branches, brush, etc. After a while the adult male got up and wandered down the road away from the others. They then (8 more) slowly, very cautiously, came up to our vehicle and surrounded it. After they decided we were no threat, they all relaxed and laid down in various places nearby. They all looked about the same size/age - young, no adults. Is a pack of 1 adult male and 8 youngsters (midsized/preteens

) common? Would they be able to participate in hunting at that age?
Thanks for any info.

Welcome back, Ex!
Ja, sounds like a "babysitter" with this year's pups, assuming they were born around May/June, which is their denning time!
How about a sneak pic?

You went to Kruger

Well, you just came back from KTP, so it sounds logical
Has Matthew left you with dry feet?

Thanks for the "babysitter" info. RP. Does that mean there were probably more adults in the vicinity? We should have followed him, perhaps. Either way it was exhilarating.
(Thanks for asking about the hurricane, Liz. We were spared the worst - just DAYS of property clean-up/yard work.)
Will post some pics when I get them processed.
