And I thought I had overcome my fear of spiders

I'm not coming back to Kruger ever again now knowing there are that huge spiders
(Please, nobody mention that big spiders can be found all over SA... my little brain doesn't know that yet.)
Fantastic capture of the queleas
And a fish eagle that I had sooo longed to see (the one at Mountain Zebra was at least at Domkrag Dam again though).

A long haul back from Lower Sabie
Nic barbet pic.

There’s a few resident ones that seem to hang out at Lower Sabie, but we have seen only a few up Satara way.
You drove past Satara still

Your rats must be very good as there’s no way mine would handle that long in a car without causing chaos.
A walk around Satara

I hope you all had reinforced shoes as the thorns were wild there this year.
A baboon spider

Never seen one of those in Satara

I would have been shrieking along with your kids

Great pics of the queleas...some of those flocks were massive!
Ah, the tarantula at last!

Great pic...although I would also have been shrieking!

April 6th
By this stage of the trip, I was starting to lose track of days (that's a good sign). It's just a good thing that my camera holds images by date otherwise lots of days would merge into one
The kids wanted to go and see the hyena den down the H1-3, so I figured we could blend that into a circular trip taking in the S125, S36 and back along the H7. Nice idea, but most of that loop was totally dead quiet. I also hadn't taken into account how much driving we had been doing, so the kids were reaching their limit and started causing some serious chaos in the car... so on the western side it turned into a long drive to get back to camp rather than much of a game drive
Anyway, the start of the day was great. Parent hyenas weren't to be found, but some of the youngsters were scattered on or near the road
At one point a giraffe appeared and neither the hyena or giraffe seemed bothered about each other
The high grass at the side of the road made it easy for the youngsters to disappear, but it also made for some interesting photos
The young hyenas seemed to be very keen for their parents to arrive home, moving up and down the road to look out for them
As more cars arrived, the young hyenas retreated, so we continued on our route. There wasn't too much activity down at Kumana except for the baboon troop, a cute family of banded mongoose as well as an impressive waterbuck
Our only other sighting of note was way further along on our way back along the H7 - a juvenile bateleur had found something to snack on at the side of the road

Ja! Thank goodness for that...same problem for many of us, I think..and you're still young!
What lovely light on the waterbuck horns!
Unique giraffe/hyena combo!
Nice day so far, Peej!
Ah, to be young again! (Talking about the boon)
