We had heard of the odd sighting of the skimmer so were on the lookout, but it was a real surprise to actually see it \O

Pre-bookings are definitely essential at the Croc Bridge gate. I think at Malelane they lump everyone together so there's no real order to the process 0*\

Wed 26th June contd

We had a very relaxing afternoon back in Marloth Park. Sitting outside we saw some purple crested turacos in the trees, and one flew onto our neighbours windowsill ^Q^

The reflection in the glass seemed to have it really confused and it kept trying to attack its own reflection 0*\ =O: =O:

Image

Up on the deck we were lucky to find a martial eagle had settled in a tree just across from us O\/ O\/

It stayed there most of the afternoon so we pointed it out to a few people as we walked along the fenceline

Image

Whilst out for a walk we spotted what I think must be a cardinal woodpecker which was really hard to photograph as it jumped around

Image

We had a nice herd of elephant come down to drink and saw some of the resident waterbuck and a goliath heron to round off a very nice day X#X

Great Marloth sightings O\/

Normally the purple crested turacos are hard to catch. They are mostly moving around in the bushes very speedily. I have got my only pics of a couple at Marloth \O Pretty bird ^Q^

Excellent relaxing afternoon, Peej! ^Q^

The river proximity makes all the difference at Marloth in winter, the rest of the municipality is pretty dessicated... O-/

Did you manage to have some tea on the stoep?
