For sure it was still far too early to stay in camp so we immediately left same to do a turn on our beloved magical square. Meanwhile it cleared up tremendously and we enjoyed the view from the highwater bridge

Image

a bit further nearly at the end of the bridge Timon discovered in the far distance a lone lioness who walked in the riverbed straight to a remaining puddle, drank from same and then disappeared in the thick vegetation on the embankment. As unfortunately the S30 was closed we could not try to maybe find her again on that road as this was the direction in which she disappeared.

Image

During the rest of our drive we detected a juvenile bateleur,

Image

white fronted bee eaters,

Image

Image

lots of baboons in trees,

Image

a burchell’s coucal

Image

as well as warthogs

Image

before we took another break at Lake Panic which was not that full as yesterday where we today captured one of the many terrapins,

Image

lots of curious hippos,

a juvenile fish eagle unfortunately a bit far away

Image

and again uncountable pied kingfishers.

Image

One put up a flight show for the people in the hide and presented the approach,

Image

the landing

Image

Image

and again the take off which was impressive to watch and that happened in fact a couple of times

Image

whilst other pied kingfishers were busy in catching fish and today we even discovered a levaillant’s cuckoo here

Image

and also one of the many green backed herons dared to come out of its cover under the dense bushes.

Image

After nearly one hour we left again only to pay also the Nursery a visit to stretch our legs a bit and whilst driving back to the tar road we came across a large group of impalas some with oxpeckers

Image

and others without

Image

and we also discovered a nyala bull between the impalas but at first stage he stayed hidden

Image

to be continued………………

Totally right the cuckoo was not easy to spot but eagle eye Timon discovered same. [Luv]

Our so called "magical square" is driving on the H4-1, cross the high water bridge, then turn into the H12 and back to camp via the H1-2 and with the crossing of the low water bridges and then back to camp O:V

A lovely selection again, Pumbaa! \O

Lion again, and lots at the hide!

The cuckoo is quite rare. And I like the kingfisher action shots! [O]

FABULOUS sightings ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^ At first I thought the small black rhinos [Luv] were warthogs  , but then I realized the horns were missing :-0 .
Love the pygmy goose - gorgeous, and you had so many other great bird sightings it's hard to choose favorites. I certainly am learning a lot from your great pics. :ty:

Can't let the leopard sightings go unmentioned - great spotting there, you two. ^Q^

We were lucky in seeing that much different cuckoos this year but indeed they are not always easy to photograph lol

Definitely not because of the rain as it was bone dry so I suppose they had some road works to be done there ;-)
