I love the bee-eater tree and the ground hornbill in the air

The faces the lion cub was making are funny. Love the European bee-eater tree, and of course the flying Ground hornbill is great.

Ja, that S100 can be dead quiet...

Plenty of birds of prey indeed!

Birdingwise the S100 normally does not disappont

We were so happy that so many different lions stayed on the road despite the traffic on a Saturday morning

Nevertheless we always give the S100 a try

Carwise it was luckily extreme quiet maybe most of them still stood at the lions……whilst we neared Gudzani dam where the road was blocked by lots of wildebeests and zebras and that road was still extreme muddy along the roadside.



For sure the obligatory impalas hung also around and



due to the masses of zebras we passed



we often found a willing model



who was happy to pose for us and we enjoyed the silence at the dam itself and also noted again with joy that also this dam was brimful as we already saw the dam empty during the time we stayed there.



After a while we continued as we intended to stop there again on our way back but before we turned again into the S41 and stopped at the Gudzani causeway which was overflowing and where we soon spotted a goliath heron



and a black crake.



Next stop was then at the N’wanetsi causeway which for sure was also strongly overflowing and here we discovered a grey heron



as well as an African jacana quite close



which is always a joy as this bird often could only be seen far away.

The rest of our drive until we reached N’wanetsi picnic site was then unfortunately uneventful and we also did not stay that long there and only checked whether the road leading to Sweni drive was open but same was still closed so obviously not visit to Sweni hide this year. So far we unfortunately could not visit any of our beloved bird hides as all roads leading to same were closed hopefully more luck the next time.

So we decided to drive back via the S41 as we were still in urgent need of feeling gravel roads under our tires. At least the ever present impalas did not let us down



and after found a lovely place to park the car we luckily could capture some close ups



as allover that place impalas could be seen either in the sun or on a shady place



and on top a couple of tender moments could be captured as well.





They were so relaxed and we simply stood there and enjoyed their presence.





After a long time we continued and now we even could stop a bit longer on the Gudzani causeway as there were lots of crocodiles around waiting for some fish



and we even found now also a majestic waterbuck male



before we again returned to Gudzani were still these masses of general game were around





and after we were back on the S41 masses of impalas arrived and crossed the road and we gave them right the way as it was so amazing to watch more and more of them appear.

I admire you immensely for still taking lots of photos of impalas, wildebeests, zebras etc. after all these years

know the feeling well the sand roads hold more pull than the tar .
