We spent quite some time watching the Steller's Sea Lions (Northern Sea Lions). These are the largest species of eared seal in the World and have a distribution in the Northern Pacific from California, North along the Alaskan coast and Down the Kamtchatka Peninsula to Hokkaido in Northern Japan. They feed on Walleye Pollock, Herring, Rockfish, Cod, Squid & Octopus, but also take Lamprey and Salmon as they enter the river systems to breed.

Typical rookery.

All was peacful and the females snoozed the afternoon away.

Until the arrival of the dominant bull.

Chaos ensued as he asserted his authority on the now fully awake cows.

For some reason a Beatle's song came to me when I was looking at the sea lions. They are interesting to watch though...
Looks like glorious weather too. \O

I think this trip report needs a different title - haven't seen you walk with one Grizzly yet!

To be quite honest Jill, we did not get to walk, or even see, a single Grizzly the whole trip. :-( You are correct about the title needing to be changed. \O

I'm telling the truth Flutt's. We did not see a single Grizzly Bear the whole trip. They do not occur in this region. \O Look it up if you don't believe me. \O

Yes, the whole trip. No Grizzlies whatsoever. :-( Not in Kodiak, or in Katmai. We would have to go elsewhere to see Grizzly Bears. Shame, but that's the way it was. :-(
