I must say that this "Satara" elephant has a rectangular notch quite similar to the Satara as listed by Aat in the "TUSKERS OF YESTERDAY" chapter of Aat's TUSKERSOFAFRICA.

It appears that Johan Marais has taken his photo as on the SANPARKS "Emerging Tuskers Pages" well before I made the photos ( Dec. 2004 ) which are published on Aat's TUSKERS OF YESTERDAY.

It is now quite some 14 years later which gives much time for tusk degradation as well as all sorts of new bodily markings like the swellings and wrinkles on the trunk of the ellie pictured above's ---- Aat, what do you think, could this ellie be the original SATARA that is in his twilight years roaming the bush North of Satara ?

about 8 kms north of babalala...

unfortunately i could not get a shot of his left side
