Lowvelder: Minor flash floods in KNP force road closure

Three roads and a bridge closed.
Marinette Potgieter | 29 December 2014 17:05

MBOMELA- Minor flash floods in the Kruger National Park (KNP) forced the closure of the Sand River Bridge near Skukuza as well as that of three other roads in the park this morning.
The S30 Road in the south and the S55 and S56 in the north that all run along the Sabie River, are still closed.
According to KNP spokesman Ms Laura Mukwevho, the Sand River Bridge is a low-water bridge and therefor vulnerable to flooding.
The floods were caused by continuous rain in the area during the past week.
Mukwevho says no road damage has been reported as yet and the roads will be reopened as soon as they have been cleared. She says a full analysis of the current situation in the park will be available tomorrow.

No rain today, don't know about Kruger...but 70 mm in Pretoria 3 days ago, for example, and a lot of Gauteng and Highveld water comes down the rivers!

Should be ok! \O
