Bedi & 2 (remaining) Cubs
29/03/2015 around 11am, just south of the turn off to Kaa
For our morning drive we had gone up north and upon return into the camp, we found that our friend Rob wasn't back from his morning drive,
which was more than unusual. Hence, he had to be onto something. Off we went down south again, finding Rob and two other cars parking
just south of the turn off to Kaa. Rob told us that there was a cheetah mum and her two cubs lying in a ditch next to the road that had been
created by the previous good rains. We pulled up quickly to take a look and I could hardly make out the third cheetah... Since we were blocking
the road and another car approached from the south, we reversed and settled down to wait for the action since there were springbok in the
vicinity. After waiting for 45 min. (Rob had been sitting with them 1.5 hours before that already!) the action started and all of a sudden we were
in prime position while everybody else didn't see a thing due to the action taking place in their back or because of obstructing trees.
Lots of dust flew!
Bedi must have run at least 150 metres before catching the springbok. Quite a distance!
Yet, she stood like this for only 5 minutes...
...before tucking in as well.
The three of them seemed pretty hungry and looking at Bedi's profile in the second last photo, I'm sure they hadn't eaten in quite some time.
Also, maybe she sensed the presence of a male lion who apparently nicked the rest of the kill a bit later.
