Thank you very much everybody for your positive feedback which really makes Joan and I feel very proud.

THURSDAY 3 OCTOBER 2013. Part 1/3

What roads to do on our last day always causes a bit of argy bargy but in the end they say "It is up to you." In the end we agreed to do Nkakane Link again in the hope of seeing those lion we spotted Monday.

First off was this sentry atop the big boulder on Thaba ya Ditshwene.
Image

Having not seen the lions on Nkakane Link we turned off onto Tshepe Drive towards Kwa Maritane to see if we could see them near the flat rocks (marked as G12 on the map) on the right hand side of the road just past the bridge. Nothing to be seen so we did a U-turn and headed back to Tshepe Drive. Hammerkops had been very scarce on this trip so when we saw our first next to a pool by the bridge Joan took a photo.
Image

As we approached the junction of Nkakane Link and Tshepe Drive I saw what I thought was a zebra crossing Tshepe Drive ahead of us. It turned out to be a lion, so due to my slow reaction, we had missed it crossing Tshepe Drive. Fortunately the veld was very sparse and clear so Joan could get some nice shots of him. It was a young male on his own and heading for the Thabayadiotso hill. We watched him until he disappeared into bushes near the top of the hill.

Another lion sighting in the can and we were happy. We wondered if he was part of the 3 lions we saw on Monday and he was heading back to where the rest were?

Another rhino pic.

Not much further away were these two asleep. Mommy and child I think.

Then daddy plonked himself next to them for his kip.

NEXT: Joan gets what I rate as her best ever photo after I had tried about twenty times to capture it.

Thanks very much B.C.

Your leopard with a bokkie kill makes Joans best photo look quite tame.
