Mel wrote:Pfff... I don't even know where to start :O^ ... the kingfisher is great, so is the bokmakierie. I like the soaked kudu and am totally in awe of your Vallie Moosa sighting.
Also, there is that really great shot of the steenbok. Very lucky, I think O:V Your car looks like a pig though, just not bush enough lol

Maybe Roy and Nomad have moved up and returning the favour to check up Norman and Zwaai's territory whily they are gone. -O- lol
I'm actually transferring Addo soil to my front lawn as a result of recent visits O** O** 0*\

Roy & Nomad have been seen up near the Schotia fence line fairly recently. Perhaps one of the ladies that side has been on heat -O-
But it wouldn't take them long to head back across to where Norman & Zwaai were seen... I worry about those two. They've come off seriously second best in a number of incidents now, and I can't help but think they will be the first coalition to see a fatal casualty :-( 0:

So I better catch up some more...

Wednesday was of course a public holiday what with the voting, and we had absolutely no intention of heading to Addo. Besides, it was cold, wet and windy 0: 0:

But I had a call from a friend who said that lions had killed a buffalo right in the road on Mbotyi loop. That's only about 40 minutes away from us (including the stop at reception), so after a bit of negotiation we all hopped in the car to see if they were still around

This was the sight that greeted us

Image

On closer inspection the lions were visible in the bushes. It was a shame that we had missed them when they had been right out in the open earlier in the morning, but we were still thrilled as it was Roy and Nomad - 2 lions who we hadn't seen for about 6 months O/\ O/\

Nomad looking menacing

Roy looking sleepy

There wasn't really much movement for a while so as a couple of cars left we were very fortunate to be in a prime spot when Roy decided he wanted some more of their very expensive breakfast O:V

Image

The sounds of tearing and crunching were amazing... and fairly quickly he was turning red from the blood inside the carcass

Once full, he retreated to the bushes and we took a bit of a drive around the area. Later in the morning Nomad pulled the buffalo further into the bushes and had a bit of a snack on it himself

It had been a brilliant sighting, but it was getting very busy with cars by this point and certain foreign nationals were starting all sorts of arguments about how long people should be in particular viewing spots etc. The lions were close but really obscured by the dense bushes so we decided it was a good time to head home
