Don't think I've seen a grey shrike, thought they were all the brown version..

Interesting the sprinklers still running despite all the rain!

And good on the gate guard for understanding with the lions.

Those male lions always have the same obsessed expression when mating, I call it F-face...sorry...

S90-41 is the best route around Satara, IMO!

Totally right and although the owl was far away - We simply love all the different colours of our beloved birds

S90-41 is the best route around Satara, IMO!

For us the S90 / S 41 is always a must drive at least once - Yes, I found it also strange why the sprinklers were running but they attacted at least a couple of birds

Once again birdingwise it was a fantastic drive with this little chap





and unbelievably with another Kori bustard



and for sure the ever present zebras.



We also came across a large group of kudus who were lying all over the place, some were grazing



and the rest were still resting it was such a wonderful sighting.



On one of the many causeways we had to cross we discovered a green backed heron who just caught a fish



and after we continued after a while we stopped for a group of ground hornbills on the search for something to collect.



Although we maybe had not the great sightings we had a lot to watch and photograph and on top we obviously was the only car on that road that early morning. Close to Gudzani dam we again experienced a wildebeest roadblock



and at the dam itself to Timon’s delight we noticed an African fish eagle



who far too soon took off and landed out of sight but after a more careful look through the binoculars we even discovered for sure a bit far away a green backed heron, a black crake, two pied kingfishers



as well as at least three crocodiles.

Suddenly also the fish eagle appeared again busy in obviously catching a fish



and indeed in no minute same had caught one and soon took off with same



only to land again on the dam wall but the eagle changed its plan and decided to land in a tree on the peninsular in the dam where same started finally to feed on the fish.



Also here we took our time until we slowly continued and came across a couple of giraffes,



and on the Gudzani causeway we were already greeted by a grey heron



as well as a green backed heron who for sure cleared the causeway when we neared.



Again uncountable crocodiles were hanging around here waiting for fish, some could be seen were the water was overflowing the causeway and others decided to stay a bit farer away



and some even presented their impressive tooth

and finally one of them even caught a larger fish. Nevertheless we could have spent hours in watching them.

And the croc pics, quite an experience!

people think they wait for fish flowing down over the bridge, but I think it is fish trying to jump upstream for breeding, and getting washed back.

As everyone else says, the fish eagle pics are special , but I also like the heron w/ the fish as it looks quite large for that sized bird. Are you a "bird whisperer", as you get such wonderful pics of so many different species. The croc pics are impressive as well.
