Thanks for the comments Richprins, Lisbeth & H. Erectus. \O

RP - You have no decorum. The thing is an Accipiter, and it's Shikra sized. lol (like a small Gabar Goshawk). Has red eyes. \O

Lis - More scenery to come later on in the TT. \O

H.E. - Next episode of the soap opera coming up with nothing but violence.

As we were packing the van to move camps, a disturbance in front on my chalet attreaced our attention. A dispute had broken out between the neighbouring Greater Blue-eared Starlings and it had turned violent.

These two were going at it hammer & tongs.

Image

This was a no-holds barred fight with clawn, wings and beaks used in various forms of attack.

Image

Image

A left stab with the beak.

Image

A below the belt kick.

Image

And doule foot & bill lock.

Image

Posturing was all important...... the martial arts open wing stance.

Image

Turns into the blurred wing & kick feint.

Image

But as with all brawls, a bit of dirt into the eyes is always a favourite.

Image

Followed by a right claw to the heart.

Image

This was both frightening and gripping to watch. Both birds giving no quarter and other Starlings screeching loudly in the trees above. However, this was only the first round. The next few rounds would turn even nastier.........

Fighting is the main mortality factor in some Starling species  Wonder what is it about, breeding opportunities -O- , or these are a male and a female lol
