Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
I LOVE Ground Hornbills with their luscious lashes ( I was surprised the first time I saw one close-up - VERY long lashes )
The kudu shot in the sunlit flora against the dark boulder background is rather striking, great Euro. Roller shot, and I like the composition in the last (Sandpiper???etc) shot with the sand and water background.
I think you should post your Marabou stork photo in the FUNNY FOTO thread with the caption being the title of a country song by Loretta Lynn - "You're the Reason Our Kids Are So Ugly"

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
I stayed for quite a while, but there was nothing that I could do
I still don't know how come that I was so sleepy
There were a lot of "shouting" larks around
Thank you, Pumbaa! This is not a TT for people who do not care about birds
Thank you, Klippie
The age of the rest of that tree is rather impressiveRogerFraser wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 7:09 pm Interesting the tree plaque . Shame that poor water-buck -hope it found mom
I like the Letaba camp too, Alf
I would have loved to exchange the Lark for a cheetah
Yes, the ground hornbills are funny looking birds I am glad that you like the shots of the wood sandpiper, thank you, sisExFmem wrote: ↑Fri Jul 05, 2019 11:52 pm I LOVE Ground Hornbills with their luscious lashes ( I was surprised the first time I saw one close-up - VERY long lashes )

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
After all the rain I wanted to see if the Sable Dam loop had been opened and if yes, in how bad a state the hide was.
A Brown Snake-Eagle was also examining the situation, but from a better position, high up
The S51 had been opened . A lot of sand/earth had been added to fill up the most damaged spots of the road. It would have been better to drive a 4x4, but I managed.
At the first opening of the trees towards the dam I saw two beautiful Spoon-Billed storks busy searching for food in the low water.
I followed them until the trees covered the water again
In a car coming from the opposite direction someone was taking pics of something in a tree and when I got at the height of the car I saw that the passengers were the Jinnahs. We exchanged a few words and then each continued in his/her search for what we had come for . Duke had been pointing his super lens at a

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
Arrived at the hide it was very obvious that it had rained quite a lot
On the flooded walkway a Green-backed Heron was fishing
In one of the many dead trees in the middle of the Dam a Fish-eagle had taken up temporary residence
View from the hide
Somewhere......
Fem- Red-backed Shrike
On the H9 there is a small bridge crossing a river with an impossible name

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
At Letaba I went to the shop and got some crackers and something cold to drink and proceeded then on the H1-6 towards Mopani
Red-billed Hoepoes milling around in a tree
A big guy watching me
A summer scene
At Middlevlei there was a general assembly of White Storks. Maybe some of those from a few days back had moved down here
Suddenly on the other side of the road my eye caught something.......SPOTS
Well, I only saw the backside unfortunately. If only I had arrived a few minutes before it would probably have been drinking at the waterhole
And then it was gone

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
The windmill and the water container only occupied by a couple of geese
Suddenly appeared from nowhere a warthog. I hoped that the cheetah would be chasing it
A second later two piggies speeded across the road
And all three of them soon disappeared eating their way in the tall grass
At the next water hole there was nada

Re: Enjoying The Kruger Park Without Staying In The Park
Next to the bridge over the Letaba the water had deposited a lot of trash
Through the windscreen the Pied Kingfisher did not come out very well
A nice tree decorated with an elephant
Some more crossing the road
And a big guy
This view means that I am almost home
To end the day, what was left of a once upon a time Zebra
Bye until next time

Lis!
A nice day trip indeed!
And a cheetah! I think it is a male!
My favourites are the spoonbills and the piggies!
