To the extreme West of the Park, lies a dam tucked away at the foot of the mountains and surrounded by a lining of trees.
You are likely to have less visitors here than any other dam in Pilansberg.
Ruighoek Dam
Sit quietly and you may be rewarded with some great birding at Ruighoek! The top one for me is Old Spoonster!
A Black Shouldered Kite looking around for a critter to devour
The sour grass region in the West near Ruighoek is ideal for the rare antelope! Red Hartees are always in the region

Here is a map of the Pilansberg
There are about 9 dams that have water all year round!
It is only about 20km North to South, and about 20km East to West. Plenty of roads though!

Thanks for the map
It’s fairly small, but as you say plenty of roads
I think a short trip of around 3 days would be the way to go

Yes indeed I would recommend up to 5 days.Bushcraft wrote:Thanks for the map

Don't drive around as much as you would in Kruger. This topic is all about how Pilansberg lends itself towards sitting in hides. The kids would not get in as many squabbles
Re: Dams of the Pilansberg
Agreed, but other visitors in the hides may stress out big timecheetah wrote:The kids would not get in as many squabbles

Re: Dams of the Pilansberg
BC....there is a LOT of water in the Pilanesberg. I must say, 5 days would be too much for me....I think 2 or 3 would be more than enough.
