I woke up last night with this little creature crawling over my face
Lots of them around here , and especially this time of the year , with the drought , hot and dry conditions , there seem to be even more of them .
They come into the house in the evening , scooting over the floor hunting for insects ,and its amazing how fast they can move

It looks rather dead by now
Is it a spider? I went through all the spider pics in our Spider Book, but have found nothing like it

That's correct FB
In Afrikaans also Roman spinnekop , rooi roman .
Also baardskeerder ( beard shearer ) , haarskeerder ( hair shearer ) - due to old belief that they bite off/cut your hair , especially while you are sleeping --- like when the crawl over your face
They have a tendency to stand up on their hind-legs in a menacing pose when you approach them , and quite often they would rush towards you as if wanting to attack you
But that is , because they avoid bright light/sunlight , and they prefer shade , so , when they charge you , in fact , they are actually just running towards you in order to hide in your shadow
Lis , look up Solifugidae on the internet .
