Ndume - he may not be one of Africa's Giant Tuskers but he has a story that can make you smile, laugh and cry all at the same time. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust do an amazing job. Ndume is one special elephant.

Thanks Seiont for your posting of Ndume - although not yet a "giant tusker" in the sense of big tusks it still is an interesting story of his life.
One observation about Ndume - it is said that he was 26 years old when he returned to civilization - now he has quite considerable tusks for his mid-life age indicating that he must carry a good supply of East-African giant tusker genes.
Will really like to see him as he ages from this point onwards,

Sudan monster :-
Here are some photos I found on internet - it is really a monster tusker from Sudan and the clothing of the people posing with the tusks suggest that this photo was taken relatively recently.
( Interesting to see photos of such giant tuskers from obscure places in Africa - if only we could know where to go and look for them and bring back photos of them "on the hoof". If only. . . .
These photo(s) on internet claiming to originate from a web site called "Sudan Wildlife Safari Co" but I cannot find this address on internet. I suspect this website is now defunct.

The below photo appears in News Letter 41 of Take Aim Safaries. It is stated that the tusker was spotted by one of the PH's in their hunting concession bordering the Gonarezhou Nature Reserve in Zimbabwe, but that he was not hunted. The PH stated that he was convinced the tusks were in the 100+ pound class, especially the RH tusk which reaches down to the ground.
