What a pity the restaurant didn't deliver. I seem to remember having had excellent coffee there - I'm very fussy regarding coffee. So what's this nonsense serving slop :O^ We have also had mixed experiences with the food and service. Have had excellent game potjies there but other food has been very disappointing.
Love your giraffe and ostrich photos best but all photos are stunning. ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^
Only one cheetah sighting? Wonder where they were hiding.

Only one cheetah for the whole trip? Now I'm scared... Hope to get to see a few more. They can keep the lions instead.

Interesting one this one is though... Hanri... And being on her own means she must have chucked out Gus and Margie not too long ago.
Last sighting of the family together that I know of was 2 months earlier.

Anyway... Glad you made it to the KTP after all the hiccup!

Did you go to Nossob as well? Any news on the building activities?

Oh, and did you get any info about a young male lion dying at Nossob waterhole? SanParks is trying to feed us that he was killed by the dominant
male which is his father as well. However, the young male and two others at Marie's had swollen faces which pointed towards Anthrax. RP got in
touch with Dr. de Vos and he confirmed that assumptions by looking at a few photos from those young males.

On Facebook there was also talk about a fight but so far I haven't found anyone who actually SAW the fight... So, if you got more reliable news to
share, I'm all ears, uhm, eyes. :-0

We had a very good steak at the restaurant the evening before. I may have been mistaken about the coffee but it tasted like Ricoffee to me!

Yes, only one Cheetah sighting unfortunately but there were others around. A group of five were seen near Melkvlei for a few days.

Ahh, the Lions!

We had four nights at Mata Mata and then seven at Nossob. I was given a blow-by-blow account of how one lion had gasped out its dying breaths at the Nossob waterhole  . I'm very glad I missed it   .

Our guide on the night drive we took at Nossob told us the story :-
There are two pride males in the Nossob pride - I had a close up sighting of these two and they are among the largest Lions I've ever seen. Most, if not all of the subadults in the pride are also males and one of the two pride males (the smaller and more aggressive one, apparently) decided it was time for them to leave the pride. The subadults didn't much like the idea and resisted so the pride male killed three of them, one at Nossob and the other two at Marie se Gat. He also told us that there is no anthrax in the park due to the water being pumped out of the ground.

As for the building.
While we were at Nossob, they started on the alterations. The south gate has already been moved about 30 metres south and they started to put in a new fence. This goes north from the back of the hide on the river side of the road. We were told that once the new fence was complete, they would be taking down the old fence. The plan is to build 12 luxury chalets overlooking the river to the north of the hide; a bit like they have done at Mata Mata I guess.
