On the H1-3, just north of Tshokwane, there are some new loops that give a view of the seasonal river, parallel to the road.
There are a few pools of permanent water.
In one of the pools were loads of skinny Hippos, and this dead one.
Doesn't look like the predators/scavengers have eaten much
Really sad to see.

To me it looks as if they have eaten it all; only bones and hide left

If I am correct, there lumps of partly digested grass indicate the stomach and intestines were not removed?
Which is one of the first thing scavengers do?

They open the stomach, but don't eat the grass, Dzombs!

No, they don't eat the grass, but they pull out the digestive system?
I guess we will never know 100% in this case

Strange how the other hippos don't seem too bothered by the carcass.

I thought a similar thing.
But loads of the others not in a good way.
Skinny with spines and other bones sticking out.
Must have been there for at least 15 mins, and some just stood there in the blazing sun, not even moving
