A quick look at Kij Kij early in the morning before the traffic arrives from down south is nearly always worthwhile

I'm glad to hear that there still are lions in the park
And in rather good shape too
I don't think I would have appreciated him walking by so close either…

I arrived back at Rooiputs to have Breakfast, Tidy camp and then go with Jane to Twee Rivieren to get ice and have a swim..I drove around to the far side of the tree to park in the shade for the Hours wait for our trip to 'Civilisation'..Naturally I left fresh tyre tracks driving to the shade in our No 3 area ...20 mins later I needed something from the Hilux and walked via the sunny tracks to get there and lo and behold we had had a visitor AFTER I had parked ..One BIG Male Lion Spoor over my tyre tracks
I rushed back the 30 metres to show Jane and get my Binos in the tent ...Maybe he was still in the area for a view..He sure was ...sitting on a dune 150 metres away enjoying the entertainment supplied by Mr & Mrs Betts going about camping chores ..He stayed there fast asleep until dark when he then kept us awake all night roaring his head off every 20 mins in the area between the dune and our tent ..The ground SHOOK!! and he was clearly visible at 40 metres in the Full moon. Rooiputs at its best!!...Best lion action on the Continent
