Nice to see them interacting and staying in sight! X#X

Interesting the one with the damaged ear.

I like the gymnogene with the pinkish face, normally they are yellow.

Not quite sure but suppose that gymnogene was a juvenile and that wild dog sighting was amazing and we were so happy to finally having found them \O

I also love the African Harrier Hawk. IMO the skin around the eyes is kind of rose-yellow and sometimes it looks more rose and vice-versa.

In the beginning the cars at that wild dog sighting were well arranged and luckily no OSV so it was okay, however, after half an hour the cars got more and more and we left ;-)

After more than half an hour we moved as we got already that many shots and stick to our original intention to drive once again into the direction of Girivana and along our way we noticed white backed vultures as well as double banded sandgrouse

Image

and watched quite a while a paradise whydah who permanently landed on the ground

Image

only to flew above into a tree and this procedure continued quite a couple of times until we finally arrived at Girivana.

Image

There we simply enjoyed the silence and watched a great white egret

Image

who was busy in catching one tadpole after the other.

Image

As nothing else appeared we continued after a while only to stop for masses of impalas who we met nearly each evening at the end of the S40

Image

and for sure that evening atmosphere was simply breathtaking.

Image

Our last animal that evening was another impressive elephant bull before we returned back to camp and had another yummy braai.

Monday, 20. February 2023 – Satara

Explored roads: H1-4 – S100 – S41 – H6 – H1-3 – H7 – S40 – H7 – H1-4 – H7 – S12 – S40 – H7 – H1-4

Today was already our last day in that area and early in the morning it was still very grey and overcast and we decided once again to drive the S100 – also this morning or better to say no single sign from the lions we met only two days ago. At least it was a quiet drive and we enjoyed the morning and the green area

Image

with nicely filled rivers.

Image

At least after a while a couple of birds appeared and we stopped for another burchell’s coucal,

Image

wildebeests as well as wattled starlings which suddenly occurred in masses

and for sure for the ever present impalas out of which this one was surrounded by flies.

Image

We stopped at a bush full of birdies and only later when back home I noticed the python as well in the bush on the right side of the picture who obviously just caught one of the birdies.

Image

After the grey clouds earlier that morning the sun meanwhile made its way through all the clouds and it was as well a lovely sunrise.

Image

We still could rely on the birds as we captured a francolin on top of a tree trunk,

Image

a black shouldered kite,

Image

one of the noisy parrots

Image

as well as white backed vultures

Image

and finally we also noticed giraffes

Image

as well as many zebras out of which these two youngsters having a lie in were the cutest,

Image

however, soon a supervisor had a closer look after them

Image

Image

and then it was also time for some more close ups of the other herd members.

Image

to be continued……………………

The scenery shots are wonderfully evocative...sigh [InLuv] Spotting the python in the tree had to be a real   Too cool. The best for me is of course the Paradise Whydah - spectacular species! O/\
