Well, if you are really after lions, you should book Lower Sabie and Shingwedzi, then you have some of both worlds, quiet zone in the north with good chances to find a big tusker and maybe the rare northern antelope (Grysbok, Eland, Tsessebe, Roan) and at Lower Sabie you are in the middle of lions and the other big five with all the tourists.

Not really after lions, more after the nature!
We have seen lions good and ofcourse a lion sighting is nice and lovely (I mean: not something I see that often) but there is so much more to be seen. ;)

Trying to avoid the hords of tourists in the lower sabie section, Berg-en-Dal sounds great, just as Shingwedzi, maroela.
We have decided to go in May/June instead of july and august

And not going to Tamboti We really want to go camping!

Lower Sabie is always crowded like Schipol Airport Netherlands You Didn't like Balule ??? Its fantastic and quiet and great leopards and Central Kruger game without the Satara hordes..If you want the real colourful birds you must come in summer and go North when all the migrant Cuckoos etc are in town..If you want to camp the best camp in Kruger is Tsendze

No lower sabie I guess

Yeah, well... Balule wasn't nice because we couldn't reach olifants fast, it was a 45-minute drive minimum and well... The camp was so small although the game was great!
The low-water bridge was closed during the period we were there, maybe it is better now, but I'd still avoid it when going only for the second time.

Satara wasn't crowded hehe! Lots of nice campspots were unused at that moment, maybe we were lucky.
Our "guess" is going to Shingwedzi (or close by), Letaba and Berg-en-Dal although we still hasitate a lot
Still have a few months to decide though, since we are going in july/august somewhere.

How far can I go from e.g. Pafuri Camp south in one day, when I accept a long day's drive?
Or is it fairly do-able to go from Punda to Mopani in a day?

I haven't been in Kruger for so long that I lost any sense of distances there.

I think Punda to Mopani is easily doable at around 130km

Letaba is the limit (180km is the max SANParks permits based on a 25km/h driving speed)
