Looks like Girivana had enough water...

Yes, whilst we were staying at Satara it was a "bit" colder - It was overcast during the day but further North it got again hot Yes, Girivana was filled up but we saw that waterhole already far fuller. It looked as if the area around Satara had a bit more rains than the rest of the park

After they had some good gulps they also started to splash a bit around



and also our bee eater friends, today Europeans, were back hunting over the water and all small insects which the elephants chased up on their way to the waterhole



and in fact more were on their way soon surrounded by a couple of bee eaters



followed by the rest of the herd who first splashed around with the water from the man-made watering place



but soon came closer and closer headed by the leading lady who was extreme impressive



followed by the rest of her clan which looked a bit funny as it looked as if somebody had ranked the elephants by their size.





After a while the complete herd had finally arrived at the waterhole and started to quench their thirst



it was such a nice view and as always we had a more than fantastic time in watching them especially to end the day with such wonderful elephant sightings.



All elephants at the waterhole were totally relaxed and meanwhile a couple of cars enjoyed together with us that spectacle.





Overall more than 20 elephants could be watched and now also the last herd made its way slowly around the waterhole

and after the final bath had been done they walked away on one of the many dirt tracks around the waterhole.



One lone bull still stayed as he was busy in feeding on the long grass inside the waterhole and as we still had a bit time left we sure watched him still quite a while.



Finally we also left but still had time for a stop at Nsemani dam and here now the hippos performed a show as well



in the best evening light.





On our way back to camp we stopped for a lilac breasted



as well as an European roller



and we spent the rest of the evening on our verandah with a cold one until it was time for an early night.

Sunday, 18. February 2024 – Satara

Explored roads: H1-4 – H1-3 – H6 – S41 – S100 – H1-3 – S126 – S36 – H7 – H1-4

As always our day started with a brewing hot coffee in hand on our verandah and once again we left with gate opening time and today we decided to give the H6 a try and what to say after approx. one kilometer we had to stop as a couple of lions had occupied the road.



In total four lionesses were lying flat on the road



but for sure looked up when we neared them. Today we were the third car at that sighting but luckily the lions stayed where they were



also after shortly two more cars arrived but all the cars gave the lions enough distance so all of us at that sighting could enjoy the view onto the lions and same even got back into sleeping mode



at least most of them did.

The H6 seems to be producing more lion sightings in the morning than it used to a few years ago

The Ellie w/ the water splash is very nice , as is the flying European bee eater . The hippos are obviously swapping funny stories , and I never imagined seeing an "ugly" LBR. Wonderful entry
