Some rather confusing information came to me the other day. :-?

Roy and Nomad have always been an easy coalition to identify, and I had always been told by people (mainly staff at Addo) over the years that Roy had the spot in his eye, so telling them apart was very easy as well. In fact, when we saw Nomad having his collar changed, all the park staff including the conservation manager identified him as Nomad at the time... Roy with the spot in his eye was recovering from his anaesthetic a few hundred metres away.

I have never had reason to question or check up on the identity of these 2 until the other day when I saw a photo from Kuzuko. Nomad was introduced as a young male from the KTP, and he spent a bit of time first at Kuzuko before being transferred to the main game area of Addo. And guess what... the picture of him just prior to his release into the main section of Addo shows him with a spot in his eye 0*\ 0*\

I checked some of my old photos of Roy (who was born in Addo) and the whisker marks match those of the lion we now know as Nomad 0*\ =O:

Somewhere SP seem to have got these 2 confused and swapped their names. So Nomad is Roy and Roy is actually Nomad. I've sent a question to the Addo staff to try find out whether they plan on changing the way they identify them or not... it would be very strange to start calling these 2 by their correct names 0: 0-

We finally managed to squeeze a small trip to Addo in the other weekend. Things have been really busy what with some building work at our place, so it was nice to be back relaxing in the park. It was a very quiet afternoon, and despite some rumours of lions there were no cats to be seen on this particular day. However due to the soft light, it turned into a good day for portrait photography O:V

First up a zebra waiting patiently for elephants to move on at Peasland waterhole

Image

A little further along the southern access road we found a big eland bull sporting the latest in head accessories =O:

Image

Arizona was quiet despite the lion rumours, but we had a close fly-by from a jackal buzzard O/\

Image

After a quick pit-stop at Jacks we could see some elephant at Spekboom so decided to hop out the car to check them out. It's great being able to get so close to them... this particular chap was in musth and wasn't keen to share the water lol

Image

Hapoor was as far north as we went and we found a jackal drinking as well as a sign that summer is on the way with plenty of tortoise coming out

Image

Image

Before leaving we scoped out the Arizona side again. This wartie seemed surprised to see us O**

Image

And right at the gate we saw a big herd of eland with a lot of youngsters. I think these must be the youngest eland I've seen in Addo... the adults must keep them well hidden :-?

That was the end of our little visit, but I'm sure we'll be back again soon as there has been some exciting news. One of the Gorah guides recently took these pics of Aardlam with a litter of 2 cubs O/\ O/\ O\/ O\/

Quite a lot of people thought she was far too old to have any more cubs (she's about 14 years old now), so it's really quite an amazing feat for this incredible lioness X#X

Great eland sightings - In the second pic there are some long horns :-?

Nice Zebra with white stockings lol

Great pic of the jackal buzzard ^Q^ ^Q^

The warthog gets the first price for ugliness lol

High cutie factor for the cubs, they are lovely and Aardlam must be a perfect mother, if practice has anything to do with it ^Q^ ^Q^

What a great eland sighting! They probably thought they are safe down the Arizona road lol Tough luck that the locals know their way around lol

The cubs... well, what can one say? Supercute! Hope Aardlam will stay strong for a long time to come still and will successfully raise these two fluff balls.
They can really only learn from the best ^Q^
