Lisbeth wrote: Sun Sep 08, 2019 3:15 pm The Diederik cuckoo is still on my bucket list.

Very common in all rest camps (Especially if there are Weaver colonies like say Lower Sabie) from Oct to April but silent generally after New Year (Breeding Generally over) Easily found by following the call in camp to its calling post
Peter Betts wrote: Mon Sep 09, 2019 6:40 am Pumbaa your 'Jacobin Cuckoo' is in fact a Levaillants Cuckoo a scarcer species so well done . In older bird books known as Striped Cuckoo because of striping below the chin ..clearly visible below the chin in your pic
Peter Betts wrote: Mon Sep 09, 2019 6:51 am I chose the wrong photo sorry ..but the weaver is a Village
Thanks so much for the correct id - Somtimes I do type faster than I think and forgot to correct the id of the cuckoo O**

Finally we had luck as they were obviously in the mood to take some break at DeLaporte as all of them decided to lay down a bit apart from each other and so the traffic eased extremely as each car decided to concentrate on one lion and so we fired away. The four male lions were in their appearance easily to be distinguished as we had a black-maned one

Image

and two blondes who decided to lay side by side

Image

and even all four together.

Image

As they still stayed where they settled we now also were allowed to take some nice close ups

Image

also from the blondes

Image

and also from the back as it was such a fantastic sighting and all four were extreme relaxed and

Image

Image

then even our darling from the four, Mr. shock-headed mane, could be seen better as well but still stayed in the background so far

Image

Whereas we were happy to take pictures of the resting black maned one

Image

and from the blonde ones

Image

one of them obviously got a bit bored and stood up and chose another place behind a bush

Image

out of sight for everyone so far but for all the other his mate still had no intention to leave his

Image

resting place and even got a bit sleepy

Image

Image

and we took the chance to take some more close ups as so far not only him but also all the others were totally relaxed

Image

Image

Image

also in view of the extreme traffic with the arriving of new cars and the leaving of cars who had enough from that sighting around them

Image

to be continued…….
