The Lioness soon returned for a second attempt at moving the carcass. This time she showed impressive strength and determination by moving it right across the clearing to a shaded ditch.
Even with the overcast sky the Vurhami was stunning and warranted a short stop on the bridge.
There are six species of animal in this picture!
The males seemed suitably impressed with their choice in ladies...
Thoroughly satisfied with what had been our best Lion encounter ever, and spying a rare break in the traffic jam, we ducked out into the clear lane and made our way to Crocodile Bridge for some much-needed breakfast. In Search of Some Good "Spots"

More great pics!
It is amazing to see how strong lions are. I love how the female moves the carcass on her own while the males sit and watch...kinda typical!
Lovely scenery at the bridge.

Those males are horribly lazy!
Very strong beasts indeed!
Does the 6 species include humans, Rattle?

Re: In Search of Some Good "Spots"
Thanks FB, Lisbeth, Pumbaa, nan, RP and Bushcraft for continuing to follow along and for your encouraging comments. It was without doubt the best Lion sighting we have ever had so warranted lots of photos.
Sunday 27th August continued...
After a quick breakfast at Crocodile Bridge we proceeded to the S25. We had heard lots of good things about this road so were eager to check it out for ourselves. Our first encounter was with an oncoming car. We excitedly told them to check out the Lion action on the S28, and they informed us that there was a family of 6 Cheetahs resting off the side of the road north of Malelane when they had come through. This got us very excited as we had gone down the S28 in the hope of finding Cheetah and had missed out. Perhaps we would see some after all? The sighting was a long way away however so there was a good chance the cats would have moved off by the time we got there.
The early section of the S25 produced some nice bird sightings plus a small Zebra herd that were preparing to cross the road when we happened upon them.
Crested Barbet Emerald-spotted Dove Red-billed Hornbill Then at the S26 turnoff a Common Duiker popped up beside the road and showed an unusual lack of care for our presence, continuing to graze right beside us.
Further on a gathering of vultures suggested there may be a carcass nearby, but we couldn't see any action on the ground. Amongst all the White-backed Vultures was one impressive Lappet-faced Vulture.
