wow a Blackie, and for once with not too much wounds

Always great to see a black rhino and you got some great pics too

Is all I can say... still waiting for my first one

Morning game drives start at 5:30 so we were up earlier for some coffee before departing

The guides seemed very keen to find elephant for us, but there is only one herd of about 26 individuals in Kuzuko, so finding them isn't exactly easy

Our first sighting of the morning was a scrub hare, but Ronald's positioning of the vehicle didn't really help for photos



We then came across some good looking kudu in the early morning light





General game seemed to be fairly sparse, but as we drove up to a lookout point I spotted a herd of eland moving through some thickets



Another strange movement turned out to be a bird running along - I think it's a double-banded courser



The elephants weren't showing up anywhere, but one of the guides was convinced he caught a glimpse of them in a dry riverbed, so we ended up driving along the riverbed for quite a while. His 'elephant sighting' must have been something else entirely, but we did get to see some black wildebeest and monkeys playing around

For someone who knows Addo inside out, elephants are not exactly on the the first place on the wish list

Great to know that there are still elands around here and there

nan makes a very good point about the blackie not having the traditional fly infestation under the armpits...this warrants some investigation, maybe it's an Addo thing?

Scrub hare also always a healthy sign!

This is in the Kuzuko section nan - there aren't any in the main game area of Addo. The landscape in Kuzuko is much more like MZNP hence some different species
