Coming from Skukuza, one crosses the Sabie River within sight of camp, using the narrow low-water bridge:

I wish they would widen the two low level bridges to two lanes.
So often I want to sit and just chill, take in the atmosphere, watch birds, etc. But vehicles going in either direction often put you under pressure to move on

I seem to recall one does.
But not the other one.

Here is the next bridge - Sand River!

As one can see these bridges are not high at all, and carefully designed to be overrun by floods every year, normally only closing them for a day or two. \O

In an emergency the H12 bridge downstream from the Sabie/Sand confluence can be used in all weather.

The Sand is actually a big seasonal river with a large drainage area outside Kruger, although most water runs under the sand, as they say. It sometimes flows more strongly than the Sabie at certain times of year!

Here is a pic of the Lower Sabie bridge flooded, for example...maybe someone has a pic of the Sabie/Sand bridges underwater? -O-

To my knowledge these two bridges have never been washed away!

The low bridges over the bigger rivers like Olifants, Crocodile and Letaba are on a much larger scale and have suffered with the new climate and erosion runoffs... O-/
