534. Banded Martin Riparia cincta

Identification
15 cm;sexes alike. Brown upperparts. Conspicuous white eyebrow. In flight white (not dark) underwing coverts and rounded or square (not forked) tail.
Juvenile: Scaled rufous-buff on upper wing coverts.

438. European Bee-eater Merops apiaster

Identification
23 cm (25 cm incl streamers); sexes alike. Combination of yellow throat, black gorget, turquoise underparts and brown and yellow back unmistakable.
Juvenile: Lacks tail streamers, gorget less distinct and overall duller and greener.
Non-br Palearctic migrants. Main arrivals in Oct, departure in late Mar or early Apr.

255. Crowned Lapwing (Crowned Plover) Vanellus coronatus

Identification
31 cm; sexes aike. Sandy brown upperparts, bright red bill and legs, and distinctive head pat­tern unlike any other Vanellus plover. Legs and bill duller, more pinkish red in non-breeding season.
Juvenile: Forehead buff-brown, crown band buffy. Upperparts buff fringed.
