We decided to be out the gate at 6:00 and so it was, we travelled to the T-Junction and turned left onto the bridge over the river :hmz: , there was nothing to see as it was still a bit dark so I turned around and stopped on the bridge on the wrong side off the road , but I just had to, something told me to look far into the river, so I did and there far in the river bed I saw something moving, so out came my camera and this is what we saw..........at first 3 lions and then we saw the whole pride of 9 Lions
This was a sighting that I dreamed of for so long and now it was happening before our eyes, what made it even better is that we found them first
After all that....we slowly drove away and just cruised for a while and then went to camp so the young ones could wash their laundry and we also rested a bit
While the others where resting I walked around camp and got some pics...
Some more photos of the afternoon drive following soon
This was a very quiet day but relaxing, we returned to camp and started packing up so we could leave early the next morning for our next stop.....Letaba
So today we left for Letaba and I went at 45 km/h to get there early so we can set up camp and start driving around Letaba and visit Olifants(apparently we drove over or around Alf and the Aliens on our way to Letaba... sorry Alf )
At the Letaba river bridge we saw some life and this funny looking stuff in the river
Almost at Letaba we saw these Ground Hornbills
We booked in at Letaba and I decided to ask if there was any available sites open(not thinking that there will be as I checked before we left Shingwedzi) the lady said there was 1 available and if I wanted it.......yes yes yes please and so we stayed longer at Letaba ... Later Jenine told me that the person next to us also asked to stay longer but we where 2 mins faster than him
Just after setting up camp we left for Olifants.....
On the tar road from Letaba to Olifants we saw nothing....as usual ...not a good road for us
Letaba river from the restaurant
Olifants river
Kori Bustart on gravel rd near Letaba
Rock invading tree
Then we found our first hayena, but this one was pregnant and with the high temperature outside she was very uncomfortable and at one stage made a wee wee and layed down in it.....
Dentists nightmare
She was shy
Next my late afternoon drive....alone, will the young ones be sorry they stayed at camp
At 16:30 I went for at late afternoon drive .....alone I went from Letaba to the Letaba bridge via the gravel rd next to the river and back on the tar rd...
This is what I saw
I watched this young Hayena play for about 15 mins and decide to turn around and head back to camp.............
As I was about to turn another motorist started flashing his his lights at me and showed I must turn back, so I did.....do you think the kids will be jealous......
We decided to drive to Satara and just see what the day will bring...
At the look out just out side Olifants
Then just past the Olifants bridge we saw some cars parked next to the road, we saw a Hyena and I still wondered why so many cars would look at a Hyena.....then as I passed a bakkie I saw something in a tree...
It was a Leopard with a kill
Then a bit further down the road a very scruffy looking Burchells
